The Control Tower, Devon

D3 Perspective DarkerJo, her brother Rory and her son Ezra recently bought this property in Devon. They need an inviting and comfortable family home with options of privacy.

This living room perspective shows the relationship the house has with the surrounding garden, bringing lots of green inside.  The open concept allows various seating combinations for any mood or activity.

Section A shows the different functions throughout the house, from Jo’s music room in the basement to Rory’s bedroom on roof level. The living room and foyer are seen on the ground floor, and Jo’s private balcony and the library on the first floor.D3 Sect2

Section B shows a walkout recreational room in the basement, the living room and dining room with access to the garden on the ground floor, the library and Ezra’s bedroom on the first floor, and Rory’s dressing room, bathroom and private patio.

The building was built as an air traffic control tower in 1940, and has been derelict for over twenty years. The renovation takes the building back to its roots, though it creates a homey country house. The warm atmosphere is created through lots of greenery, soft and natural finishes and furnishing.  The house is comfortable and very functional with lots of common spaces throughout.

Although this is a family home and should function as such, it is important that all three members have privacy.  Apart from their bedrooms, Jo has an office where she can work and see her students.  Rory has a workshop where he can work on his bikes, and Ezra has a space where he can have friends over.
